Yeshiva Gedola Shavuos
Learn-A-Thon
Parents' Page
How It Works
Step One: Get Sponsors!
· Boys ask family and friends for sponsors for their learning. Boys can ask for flat sponsorship (single amount) or sponsorship for every 5/10/15/20 minute set that is learned. Boys may call or go door to door.
· Mark each sponsor clearly on the sponsor sheet to keep track.
· To be counted in the Learn-A-Thon, students must submit a minimum collection of $10 and learn the minimum intervals for their grade.
Step Two: Shavuos Learning
· Check the chart for the expected amount of time and learning material appropriate for each class
· From candle-lighting on, keep track of time learned by moving something like marbles from one jar into the other. One “marble” per assigned interval (every 5 minutes, every 10 minutes, etc)
Step Three: After Shavuos Collection
· After Yom Tov, please write down the TOTAL amount of time learned.
· Collect donations from sponsors.
· Parents, please combine donations and send 1 check or 1 e-transfer. Parents can send the etransfer to srhewitt@bell.net.
· Receipts cannot be issued for cash or e-transfer. For any questions concerning payment or receipts, please contact Rachel Wormeli directly.* Further instructions for pledge/ sponsorship submission will be sent after Shavuos.
Important Rules
· All students may count learning with parents and older siblings (for grades 1, 2, and 3, sibling should be grade 6 and above).
· Tehillim is not counted toward learning increments. Kriah may only be counted for grades K – 2.
· Any learning from an English sefer must be approved in advance.
· Students may not pool funds. They may collect together and then divide the collected funds but each student must turn in their own form and their own Money. Collecting in this fashion can only be done by grades 5 and 6
· Each student must learn for the minimum increments for their grade (see chart) AND subit a minimum donation of $10.
Healthy Learning Time!
Daily learning time should not exceed amount of school hours per day. Parents should make certain that students take breaks
Slow Mail
Please take into consideration the delay of checks from America and ask for flat rate sponsorships only or be prepared to cover the amount.
